Technical Note
This note explains the design choices behind datastore.ke. It is written for readers who want confidence that the Kenya Knowledge Index is stable, secure, and permanent.
Permanence
All public documents are hosted directly at datastore.ke
. Links are designed
never to change: /pub/sector/document.pdf
. Each file is stored in its original
form, and filenames follow official titles where possible. The goal is long-term citability.
Integrity
Documents are published without modification. We provide clear titles, dates, and metadata. Where possible, file checksums (SHA-256) are made available for independent verification.
Neutrality
The archive is non-partisan. We index laws, policies, reports, and manuals without commentary or political framing. The value lies in reliable access, not interpretation.
Security & Sovereignty
The platform is hosted entirely within Kenya, under Kenyan jurisdiction. All access is encrypted with HTTPS. No external cloud or third-party services are involved. This ensures the integrity, availability, and independence of Kenya’s public knowledge.
Accessibility
Pages are lightweight, mobile-friendly, and require no special software. There are no ads, trackers, or paywalls. The design principle is that a school teacher, lawyer, or student can access documents reliably, even on a slow connection.
Simplicity
The site uses plain static HTML. This reduces attack surface, simplifies mirroring, and ensures long-term readability. Complexity is avoided so the focus remains on preservation.
Resilience
Regular backups and offline copies are maintained. The structure allows easy replication, so the Kenya Knowledge Index can be mirrored by universities, libraries, or other institutions.
